La Rochelle wins Provincial Model United Nation Debating Conference

Keith Lewis and Prudence Present from New Orleans Secondary School and Christiane Badenhorst and Raphaela Böhmer from La Rochelle Girls’ High School teamed up to represent Germany in the South African Model United Nations Provincial Debating Conference, held in the Legislature Buildings of Parliament. After intense preparation for this year’s provincial topic – Internet Freedom and the Role of the United Nations – their hard work paid off when they were announced as the winners of this leg of the competition.

They will now represent Western Cape against the other 8 provinces, as well as teams from Africa and abroad in the SAMUN Cape Town International Conference from 20-24 October 2011, where they participate in two UN General Assembly-style debates over four days. The team from the winning South African province, as well as one representative selected from each of the other eight South African provinces, is given the incredible opportunity to participate in the international Model United Nations Conference in the USA and will visit the United Nations’ headquarters in New York.

They were accompanied by their teachers, Ms Roline Daniels and Mrs Tracy Meyer.
